British Turkish novelist Elif Shafak is an award-winning author, the most widely read female writer in Turkey. She writes in both Turkish and English, and has published 16 books, 10 of which are novels. Her work has been published in 48 languages and she contributes to worldwide publications. As an advocate for women’s and LGBT rights and freedom of speech, she is also a public speaker and a TEDGlobal speaker. She is a visiting professor at Oxford University, and has been awarded the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.
